The metamorphosis of a caterpillar takes the being through a sort of sacrifice, giving up its old body to a new form. During metamorphosis, the caterpillar breaks down and it rearranges its mass into a new form, the butterfly. Anastomosis is the connecting of different tubular shapes to create something new, metamorphosis, in a way, is similar in that matter. If you look closely, the chrysalis has the word metamorphosis hidden in the wing, and the black mass is the word anastomosis forced together like what the word means in actuality.
